SABC complies with IdeasUnlimited.tv

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is automating its compliance recording and moving to digital storage to replace VHS tapes. The South African regulator, ICASA, stipulates that transmissions must be stored for 60 days for conformation of commercial playout and compliance checks on program material.

The IdeasUnlimited.tv installation by systems integrator Concillium comes as part of SABC’s major digital migration project. By replacing its previous VHS tape-based system of manually recording, archiving and retrieving content, the broadcaster will save significant space and time. The four channels generated 24 VHS tapes per day. It can now record directly onto a single, compact device with no manual intervention.
