WEWS-TV is Latest Cleveland Newscast to Go HD
By TVTechnology published
On Jan. 7, ABC affiliate WEWS-TV (NewsChannel5) began airing its local newscasts in HD, making Cleveland the first major market with three broadcast stations airing their local news in HD, according to the station.
WEWS-TV said it became the first TV broadcaster on the air in the state of Ohio back in 1947, and in 2007 it plans to offer more HD programming than anyone else in the market. The station will tap its weather center, backed by its "Power of 5 Doppler Network" to provide all of its weather coverage in HD.
The station said its priority is "keeping viewers safe and we continue to invest in weather technology that helps us explain and show Cleveland's weather clearly and accurately, now more than ever."
