IRVINE, CALIF: TV maker Vizio is rolling out a new line of 3DTV sets, the company said today. Vizio is known primarily for its aggressive U.S. sales of low-cost LCD TV sets. The new high-end XVT Pro Series TVs will feature full 3D hi-def display capability with a refresh rate of 480 Hz, Sensio decoders, LED backlighting, wireless HDMI, WiFi and a Bluetooth universal remote.
The Sensio chip allows for delivery of 3D content over a 2D infrastructure, allowing display of full 1080p video to each eye “by rapidly alternating between the left-eye and right-eye images within the same visual space,” Vizio said. Special active-shutter glasses, sold separately, will communicate with the TVs via Bluetooth, “then transform each lens from opaque to transparent in perfect synchronization with the images displayed on the TV, which allows for delivery of the full frame rate capable by the television for the ultimate 3D HDTV viewing experience.”
The XVT line will include 47-, 55- and 72-inch models with a depth profile of less than three inches, and MSRPs of $1,999, $2,499 and $3,499 respectively. They’re expected to be in stores by August. A 58-inch wide cinema display model with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate is also on deck, but price and release date were not provided.
Vizio will demo its new 3DTVs starting tomorrow at CES in the Las Vegas Wynn Hotel.
