Univision 34 Selects SGL Flashnet for Digital Newsroom Upgrade

Software Generation Ltd (SGL), a leading provider of digital video storage/archive management software, has been selected by popular US Spanish-language news channel, Univision 34 Los Angeles (KMEX), part of the Univision Television Group, the country’s principal Spanish-language media company.

Univision 34 chose SGL FlashNet as part of a fully-equipped Avid digital newsroom upgrade. An Avid Unity MediaNetwork system forms the heart of the facility; Avid NewsCutter provides the editing software with the archive supplied by SGL/StorageTek.

The new digital system allows Univision 34 to store all of its news by sending material from the Avid Unity MediaNetwork via Avid NewsCutter to the SGL archive. Material is then retrieved when required using Avid Unity MediaManager and SGL FlashNet, providing Univision 34 with a much faster, more accurate system.

Chris Homer, Univision 34 and Telefutura 46 Chief Engineer, commented,
“SGL has proven performance for Digital Archive of Media (DAM) and works well in the Avid MediaManager environment.”

Bernie Walsh, SGL’s Sales Director, added, “We are delighted to be working with Univision 34 on this project. SGL’s partnership with Avid highlights how broadcast experts are able to network their products to provide exceptional end-to-end solutions for their customers.”
