TSR relies on VertigoXmedia's Producer Xmedia Suite for Euro 2004 Suite

Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR), based in Geneva, Switzerland, upgraded its broadcast graphics capabilities in time for live coverage of the Euro 2004 soccer championships with VertigoXmedia's Producer Xmedia suite of graphics automation products.

TSR, part of the Swiss Broadcasting, took delivery of the company's suite of applications in May, one month before the start of the games.

An entirely new look was created for Euro 2004 coverage, which included full-screen 3-D graphics, a crawling ticker and 3-D charts.

All templates were designed and created in time for the start of the tournament, and TSR's personnel were trained to use the products in a live sports environment. With the Producer Xmedia suite, TSR operators can easily select the templates they need for air, input the data for each match, and display the finished graphics on air through their Vizrt rendering system. Information transfer between VertigoXmedia and Vizrt products is transparent to the operator.

TSR used XStudio to create image templates, providing layout information for each part of the display and "hooks" for the actual data that will be broadcast. Once the templates were created, XPlay was used to select the templates, add the necessary information and broadcast the results.

Prior to using VertigoXmedia, TSR's operators manually created each graphic for broadcast, a time-consuming task affecting both the quality and interactivity of the broadcasts. With XStudio and XPlay, a broadcast can quickly and easily display up-to-the-second scores and highlights.
