Tour to provide glimpse into world of converged news media

News directors grappling with changing newsroom workflow, media convergence, and newsgathering and management technologies have an opportunity to learn about implementing and managing these transformations at a series of upcoming one-day workshops.

Newsplex on Tour, May 24-28, will provide a snapshot of best practices, and Newsplex's brand of strategies and tools intended to move media companies dealing with convergence forward.

The IfraNewsplex, a state-of-the-art media training facility located at the University of South Carolina, will be the model for the tour. During the tour, media executives, journalists and convergence managers and trainers at newspapers, radio and TV stations can experience the Newsplex expertise in advanced news handling.

Newsplex on Tour will visit:

  • Washington, DC, George Washington University Cafritz Conference Center, May 24;
  • New York City, CUNY Graduate School, May 25;
  • Evanston, IL, Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, May 26;
  • San Francisco, University of California-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, May 28.

The tour provides an inside look at Newsplex’s techniques and technology that usually is available only from attending one of Ifra's in-house training events.

Those attending will walk away with more than 50 guide points developed by Newsplex for implementing innovative, effective and successful cross-media change in their own newsrooms and news organizations, as well as an understanding of the tools and workflows being pioneered in the Newsplex prototype multiple-media newsroom.

The program will feature presentations by and discussions with Newsplex founder and director Kerry Northrup, and the center's training director Martha L. Stone. Cost is $170 for the one-day program.
