Thomson and Teranex, the Florida-based image enhancement company, have jointly developed new technology that will allow broadcasters to cost-effectively convert to and from any digital video format.
The Grass Valley Kameleon system incorporates multiple discrete modular functions into a single processing module.
The technology was developed to free broadcasters who re-use their program assets from having to stockpile an array of devices, each specifically dedicated to the conversion, processing, and cleaning of digital video signals for production and distribution.
The technology agreement extends the full range of capabilities for high-definition video processing found in the Grass Valley Kameleon media processing system signal-management products by integrating Teranex image-processing technology into Kameleon products.
The Grass Valley Kameleon system incorporates multiple discrete modular functions into a single processing module. Complementing that architecture, the Teranex modules feature video format conversion and noise reduction capabilities in an extremely compact design. These include up-conversion (SDI to HD), down-conversion (HD to SDI), cross-conversion (HD to HD, such as 720p to 1080i), digital noise reduction, and an MPEG artifact removal module for ensuring pristine file streams.
The Grass Valley and Teranex modular image enhancement technology will be available by the end of 2003.
