Thales scores two wins: Danish Broadcast and Canal+ Group

Danish Broadcast Corp., a major national public broadcaster in Denmark, has selected Thales’ end-to-end open interface interactive Television (iTV) service platform to broadcast interactive MHP, MediaHighway and OpenTV applications.

Danish Broadcast sought to develop an iTV service platform to enhance its viewers’ experience and set up value-added services. Thales’ end-to-end iTV platform will also allow Danish Broadcast to launch an information portal containing news, sports, general program information, and broadcast information next year. Danish Broadcast also plans to launch various quizzes to entice viewers.

The platform provided by Thales includes CORAL MHP broadcasting servers, AMBER DVB digital TV processors to manage digital streams, the AMETHYST switcher and the QPSK modulator.

Separately, Thales has announced that the Canal+ Group, France’s largest pay TV operation, has selected Thales’ DTV security service platform, ThalesCrypt, to secure and protect the distribution of its satellite feeds.

The Canal+ Group solution from Thales includes:

  • CRYOLITE, a stand-alone scrambler that performs content ciphering and provides high-level management interfaces facilitating daily operations;
  • GRAPHITE, a receiver/de-scrambler with multiple configurations that adapts to many environments;
  • ThalesCrypt, a fully scalable access right management platform.
