TD BankNorth Garden goes HD

TD Banknorth Garden is home to NHL's Boston Bruins and NBA's Boston Celtics. A few months ago, the indoor arena completed its conversion to an HD display system and control room.

The entire scoreboard display system was replaced last September with a Mitsubishi HD LED video board and three Daktronics LED rings above and below the main video board. The display surfaces require constant, custom-created HD content. This required updating the arena’s in-house production suite to support an end-to-end HD workflow from graphics and HD video feeds to storage and playout.

1 Beyond FOR workstations are used to render animations and graphics on the HD LED display. 1 Beyond OctoFlex workstations power applications such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and NewTek LightWave 3D. Matrox Axio hardware provides HD I/O while the eight-processor OctoFlex provides effects, previews and rendering. The four OctoFlex workstations are used in the pre-production phase, and two are used during the events for live playout to the HD displays and are set up to offer complete redundancy, in case of system failure.

An IntelliRaid storage system, from 1stDesign, 1 Beyond’s storage division, handles the back-end of TD BankNorth Garden’s system. The direct attached storage systems with fault-tolerant RAID support provide TD Banknorth Garden with solid storage and fail safe access to media files during live productions.
