Sprint adds Disney-ABC TV programming to mobile TV offerings

Sprint has added three new linear channels to its Sprint TV Power View mobile TV service, featuring full-length programming from Disney-ABC’s ABC Entertainment, ABC News and the Disney Channel.

The new ABC Mobile channel features full-length episodes of "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost" and "Ugly Betty" as well as ABC News' "Good Morning America," "World News with Charles Gibson" and other ABC News Specials. Another channel, ABC News Now, is devoted to live breaking news coverage along with original news, lifestyle and entertainment shows. The third channel features programming from the Disney Channel.

Most of this programming is also available on demand a day after it premieres on television. To access it, viewers will need a Sprint Power Vision mobile device and a subscription to the company’s Power Vision TV Pack, which costs an additional $20 per month. A separate package, including only the Disney linear channel and its on-demand programs, is available for $15 per month.

Verizon Wireless also currently offers full-length broadcast programming on mobile devices through its V CAST service. Cingular (formerly AT&T) plans to offer a similar service later this year.

Spokespersons for both Verizon Wireless and Sprint have put the number of subscribers to video services from each company in the millions.
