Sony Launches 24P Workshop

Sony Pictures Entertainment is launching a series of workshops designed to offer filmmakers hands-on experience in shooting 24P digital video.

"LAB24P: An Exploration in Digital Filmmaking," is described by its organizers as "part demonstration, part hands-on experimentation," and will be held every Thursday and Friday from Aug. 22 through Dec. 13 on the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City, Calif. Participants will have the chance to shoot interiors and day/night exteriors with additional tests on details and textures in set design and makeup, hair and wardrobe. In addition, LAB24P will explore the use of associated digital technologies such as digital dailies and live digital compositing.

The workshops are cosponsored by Digital Image, Efilm, Laser Pacific, Panavision, Post Logic, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Technique. Organizations lending a hand in conducting the workshops include the American Society of Cinematographers, Directors Guild of America and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada.
