SELCO Chooses N2 Broadband

(April 27, 2004) Atlanta, GA--N2 Broadband has announced that Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) has selected its OpenStream digital services platform to support its VOD service launch.
Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations, a municipally run service in Massachusetts, is scheduled to roll out its VOD service in late spring of 2004. The service will become available to its approximately 12,000 subscribers on Shrewsbury Cable's Scientific-Atlanta-based network, serving 85% of the homes in Shrewsbury, MA. Shrewsbury Cable will deploy the Broadbus Technologies' B-1 video server, which is fully integrated with OpenStream. The billing and SMS solution at Shrewsbury, Great Lakes Data Systems' (GLDS) WinCable product, is also fully integrated with OpenStream as a part of this VOD roll out. Additionally, the cable operator will also use N2 Broadband's Operations Support Services (OSS) for 24/7 proactive management and support.
Thomas R. Josie, general manager for Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations commented, "This "switched network" flexibility will help us save money--both capital and operational expenses--by optimizing the utilization of our streaming capacity among all of our service groups. Additionally, the OpenStream platform will allow us to get to market quickly with our VOD service by eliminating integration and interoperability concerns."
Reggie Bradford, president and CEO, N2 Broadband, said, "As the lead systems integrator, we'll also provide Shrewsbury Cable with one single point of contact for system integration, installation, and customer support, which is a real value for operators who don't have a large technical staff to deal with interoperability and other technical requirements needed to support today's multi-vendor VOD environments. With OpenStream at the helm, Shrewsbury Cable can launch advanced cable services in record time, while keeping the total cost of VOD ownership down."
