Scripps selects JVC ProHD for conversion to HD news

The Scripps Television Station Group will rely on JVC ProHD cameras and accessories as part of its plan to upgrade all of its TV stations to HD.

Scripps will purchase more than 150 GY-HD250 ProHD camcorders, more than 150 BR-HD50 ProHD recorder/players, more than 300 DR-HD10060G HD hard disk recorders and about 100 DTV monitors.

The announcement follows the fall 2006 purchase of JVC GY-HD250s by WXYZ-TV, the Scripps ABC-affiliate in Detroit. WXYZ-TV upgraded its local news coverage to HD on Oct. 4, 2006, and used the GY-HD250s for its HD coverage of the November election.

Additionally, JVC will provide a service facility with Web-based support for Scripps’ technicians and technical and user training.

All Scripps broadcast TV stations will be upgraded to JVC’s ProHD. ABC-affiliate Scripps stations include: KNXV-TV in Phoenix; WFTS-TV in Tampa; WMAR-TV in Baltimore; WXYZ-TV in Detroit; WCPO-TV in Cincinnati; and WEWS-TV in Cleveland. NBC-affiliate Scripps stations include: WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, FL; WSHB-TV in Kansas City, MO; and KJRH-TV in Tulsa, OK. Scripps will also upgrade KMCI-TV, its independent station, in Lawrence, KS.
