Sam M. Walton College gets down to business with digital signage

The Sam M. Walton College of Business of the University of Arkansas is developing a simulated trading environment to give its students real-life experience on how to make trades, manage portfolios and get through day-to-day activities as an investor.

The school is designing, building and installing a digital signage system for its new Global Financial Markets Trading Center. Under the oversight of the Garrison Financial Institute, students and faculty of the Walton College manage several funds totaling more than $12 million. The trading center will provide them with a real-life, state-of-the-art professional facility for their teaching, research and investment activities.

The Garrison Financial Institute was established with gifts from the Garrison family and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation. The institute’s goal is to advance financial education and knowledge through practice.

Rise Vision is providing the technology. The Walton College trading center includes three large LED tickers that display financial market data driven by the Rise Display Network. One 24ft ticker is located outside the trading center in the main entry atrium. Inside the trading center is a 30ft ticker that is built in three adjacent sections. Directly underneath the ticker is a 4ft by 8ft Rise Tracker LED wallboard that displays business and world news and other financial information. These digital signs enable students and professors to track their investments and make financial decisions based on real-life data and market information.

The Rise Display Network is a Web-based content management system that enables users to quickly, easily and cost-effectively create customized content for a network of large-format public information displays. Companies can choose live content options including stock ticker feeds, sports scores and live news, and incorporate their own custom information for a simple subscription per video output.
