Riedel keeps crew communicating at sports network’s new HD studio

Comcast-owned cable TV sports network VERSUS is using the Riedel Communications Artist Digital Matrix Intercom system and the Performer digital beltpack system in its new 18,000sq-ft HD production studio in Stamford, CT.

The technology delivers seamless communications during production at the studio. VERSUS already has used its newly installed Riedel Artist 128 intercom mainframe for coverage of the beginning of the NFL season Sept. 30.

The Riedel Artist is designed as a matrix platform for intercom use as well as the distribution of analog and digital audio and TCP/IP data signals. The system has a fiber-based network backbone providing a decentralized infrastructure for live audio and intercom applications.

Multiple matrix frames are interconnected by a dual optical fiber ring to form a single large, full summing, non-blocking distributed matrix. The maximum distance between two matrix nodes can be up to 1650ft as standard, and optionally up to 12mi.

VERSUS is using Artist 1000 LED series control key panels as part of the system. The control panels offer bright, dimmable 9-bit alphanumeric LED displays, rotary encoder for listen level and LED level indicator of each talk key. The alphanumeric display allows VERSUS to label destinations.

The sports network also is using the Performer series C44 and C3 two-channel digital beltpacks. The C44 system interface makes the Performer series an integrated digital solution for combined digital matrix and partyline intercom. The C3 is an ergonomically shaped, fully digital two-channel beltpack.
