ProSiebenSat.1 builds tapeless news workflow

German commercial TV conglomerate ProSiebenSat.1 has deployed a Harris NEXIO XS server system as part of its news production and playout facility in Berlin.

The installation includes 13 NEXIO NX3600HDX server systems supporting more than 60 channels. The Berlin facility also relies on the Harris Platinum router to manage signal distribution at the facility.

ProSiebenSat.1 has facilities in Munich and Berlin where its stations Sat.1 and N24 are based. The Berlin facility has live TV studios and uses them to produce the news and TV shows for the complete broadcast chain.

According to Jiri Srb, head of infrastructure and systems for ProSiebenSat.1, the NEXIO XS servers are a major driver in the move to a tapeless production workflow. Because the NEXIO XS servers support multiple formats, ProSiebenSat.1 can mix different compression formats and deliver back-to-back DV/MPEG playout, he said.
