EchoStar Europe said its new HD set-top box has been deployed by Cyfrowy Polsat, a Polish satellite firm serving 2.4 million subscribers. The HD box (model DBS-7100HD) is equipped with an upgraded silicon single-chip that EchoStar said will replicate the best digital HD imaging available.
The DBD-76100HD includes HDMI connectivity, an Ethernet port (for future-upgrading to broadband interactive channels) and Dolby Digital loop-through for surround sound.
EchoStar Europe said as part of its “commitment to lowering an operator's network overhead,” the new HD STB is compatible with the company's current remote diagnostics system to enhance network efficiencies.
Cyfrowy Polsat did not say how many of its subs, to date, are HD customers.
