Omneon offers MediaDeck for small stations

At NAB2007 (booth #SU1326), Omneon Video networks is bringing its video server technology within reach of a wider customer base, including small stations that want to leverage the benefits of a file-based production environment.

Addressing this broader market, the company is launching MediaDeck, a compact, integrated media server system based on the proven technology of the company's flagship Spectrum media server. MediaDeck integrates media storage, system management, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and SD or HD video I/O modules into a 2RU frame.

MediaDeck storage consists of eight 500GB SATA disk drives with dual-parity RAID, providing 3TB of useable storage with protection even in the event of two drive failures. The system also offers modular I/O components, so users can mix and match modules to fit their needs.

It's designed for small stations requiring a standalone server that is affordable, reliable and compatible with existing automation systems and workflows. MediaDeck also functions as an ingest station to an Omneon MediaGrid active storage system.

SD modules for ingest and playout (up to six channels per unit) and HD ingest modules (up to two channels per unit) are immediately available. Additional modules will follow to add further ingest and playout channels and formats.

Omneon will also introduce a single-channel, software-upgradeable MediaPort series 5000 encoding module (up to two channels of SD ingest and two channels of playback, at 150Mb/s,) with real-time proxy generation and 16-channel audio capability for its Spectrum Media Server.

The company will also announce a new grid-based transcode application for the Omneon MediaGrid storage system that offers preconfigured and fully integrated file conversion to and from the most common formats. It leverages available CPU power across a networked MediaGrid environment.
