Newseum Scheduled for April Opening

The Newseum, a Washington, D.C., museum dedicated to news, is scheduled to open April 11, according to Thomson. The Paris-based TV equipment maker helped with a state-of-the-art hi-def overhaul on the facility. Communications Engineering of Newington, Va., was the systems integrator on the project.

The museum features seven levels of galleries, 15 theaters and a “giant” LED in the atrium, according to Thompson. It also has an HD production facility with two production studios, two control rooms, five edit suites and a multiformat HD news production infrastructure chock full of Thomson Grass Valley gear--Kalypso switchers, LDK 6000 WorldCam HD cameras, K2 HD and SD media server systems, Turbo disk recorders, Trinex and Apex routers and an Encore router control system.

ABC will start producing This Week with George Stephanopoulos from the Newseum some time during the first half of this year.
