New Orleans Race Course to offer HD Simulcast

Another sure sign that the New Orleans region continues to recover from Hurricane Katrina is word this week that its historic Fair Grounds Race Course plans to begin offering HD simulcasts of all its races when the track opens its new Thoroughbred season next Friday, Nov. 6.

Churchill Downs Inc., which owns the Crescent City course, said the Fair Grounds will become the second Churchill Downs Inc. track, (and only the third in North America), to offer the high-quality simulcast signal both to on-track and off-track racing fans. (The first track to simulcast in HD was Churchill Downs itself, home of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Ky. That first HD simulcast occurred at the 2008 running of the derby.)

During the 85-day Fair Grounds meet (that will run through March), the HD simulcasts will be available on the Fair Grounds’ Louisiana OTB network, and at several on-track locations around the race track itself.
