NBC Universal Forms New Distribution Services Group

NBC Universal has formed a new group within its Media Works organization dedicated to operations and technology support for the distribution of its content across all NBCU platforms.

Ian Trombley, who has been promoted to executive vice president at NBCU, will lead the group, called NBC Universal Media Distribution Services.

The new group will be responsible for preparing and distributing NBCU content to multiple platforms in a variety of formats. It brings together expertise from several departments, including broadcast and cable distribution; on-air execution for live programming; technical services; film and electronic editing; internal post production; vault services and film preservation; and title management.

“There is tremendous opportunity with the formation of this new group,” said John Eck, president of NBC Television Network Media Works, to whom Trombley will directly report. “This alignment will bring cutting-edge technology, state-of-the-art operations and industry expertise together under one roof, and I’m proud to have Ian spearhead this initiative. He has the right blend of leadership and talent for this new department, and I look forward to his contributions in this new role.”

Previously, Trombley was senior vice president of NBC Universal’s Broadcast Operations Group and was responsible for on-air operations for the NBC Network—its 10 O&Os as well as the cable properties, including the USA Network, Sci-Fi Channel, Bravo, Sleuth, Universal HD and CNBC.
