NAB: Avid Unveils a New Look

Avid has launched a new brand identity at the 2009 NAB Show, as part of the company’s business transformation to better serve the interests and needs of its audio and video customers.

At the center of Avid’s brand identity is a new logo composed of simple geometric shapes that spells out the company’s name as well as represents “volume up, volume down, play, pause, record and forward,” signaling a unification of the company’s core audio and video offerings.

Historically, Avid has been a family of separate, industry-leading businesses—Avid, Digidesign, M-Audio, Pinnacle Systems and Sibelius—that served audio and video customers independently of one another. As part of a strategic transformation that began last year, Avid’s new brand identity communicates the fusing of these businesses and further positions the company to capitalize on the convergence of digital audio and video technology while addressing customer requirements for integrated systems that enhance creativity and deliver significant ROI.

Avid also revealed a number of new integrations with third parties, including Omneon, Panasonic, Sony and RED. This collaborative development is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to provide open solutions that work with a majority of third-party formats, plug-ins and technologies, ultimately placing greater flexibility and choice in customers’ hands.

“Our customers have asked us to be more open and we are delivering,” said Dana Ruzicka, vice president of strategic alliances at Avid. “More than ever, Avid is leveraging strategic collaborations with other industry leaders to enable today’s broadcast and post-production professionals to have the flexibility to work the way they want to work.”

The company has also qualified Apple Final Cut Pro editing solutions to run on Avid Unity MediaNetwork and ISIS shared storage systems. These workflows will enable customers to centralize storage on a single solution, streamline operations and cost-effectively manage production workflows.

Avid also debuted Version 5.2 of Avid Deko 3000, an on-air graphics package that supports the industry-standard FBX and Collada formats, enabling customers to easily import and playback a broader range of 3D models and animations from leading applications such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage 7.5 and MAXON CINEMA 4D. The new version will be available in June.

Avid also introduced a family of flexible support programs at the show, which are designed to address the needs of the company’s full spectrum of audio and video customers. The support packages—Avid Standard Support, Avid Priority Support, Avid Uptime Support and Avid Enterprise Support—offer services that cover a vast range of Avid products, each tailored to address the specific business and technology needs of customers.

In addition to its four new support packages, Avid will continue to offer economical “per incident” support access to customers of several of Avid’s consumer products. These customers will be able to take advantage of rapid access to support as they need it.
