KQED to buy HD production equipment under PBS/Sony HD pilot project

KQED Public Broadcasting in San Francisco is one of the first stations to agree to purchase high-definition production equipment under the PBS/Sony High Definition Production Pilot program.

The station will replace its SD television production equipment with Sony HD cameras, switchers and video recording equipment, providing a jumpstart to the creation of local, regional and national HD programming from KQED's studios.

The PBS/Sony High Definition Production Pilot project allows a representative cross-section of public television stations to acquire Sony's HD production equipment, with support from Sony, to ease the incorporation of HD equipment into the stations' production workflow. These pilot stations, in turn, will share what they learn with the public television system and serve as model stations for other PBS stations.

KQED will replace aging standard-definition studio and field production equipment with Sony HD cameras, video recorders, switchers and other equipment needed to produce HD programming. The order includes six Sony HD cameras, including three HDC-1000 and three HDC-1500 models, and the Sony MVS-8000A HD production switcher.
