KABC turns to JVC ProHD cameras for live HD remotes

KABC-TV, the ABC-owned station in Los Angeles, has purchased three JVC GY-HD250U ProHD cameras that enable the station to broadcast live HD remotes without a standalone HDTV encoder on each ENG van.

The GY-HD250 has a built-in HD MPEG-2 encoder to allow native 1280 x 720 60p microwave-ready transmission from the camera.

On Feb. 4, 2006, the station upgraded its newscast to HD. KABC-TV was the first station in the Los Angeles market to produce daily newscasts using HD studio cameras, HD weather cameras and an HD-capable helicopter. The station produces local programs, such as "Eye on L.A.," "Vista L.A." and "Eyewitness Newsmakers."
