HPA Names 2008 Post Honorees

The Hollywood Post Alliance will present a new award at the HPA Awards on Nov. 6. In addition to the winners in 10 creative categories, the organization will present the HPA Judge’s Award for Creativity and Innovation in Post Production during the show at the SkirballCulturalCenter in Los Angeles.

The HPA Judge’s Award was conceived in recognition of the intensely creative, technology-fueled and challenging environment that content creators, post-production facilities, experts and manufacturers operate in. The Judge’s Award offers an opportunity to reward innovative thinking in the areas of new tools, workflows and ideas that enhance the post-production process from a technical, creative or efficiency perspective.

Winners of the 2008 HPA Judge’s Award are:

• Digital Film Tree, for a modern data-centric post network and fully file based HD workflow, and CBS/Paramount Television, for the use of this workflow on the series, “Everybody Hates Chris.”

• LaserPacific Media Corp., for accurateIMAGE (aIM), a color-calibrated end-to-end process that provides digital-cinema-quality dailies that look like film.

• Sony Pictures Imageworks, for “Beowulf 3D” stereoscopic post-production pipeline, a proprietary pipeline created for the production of the stereoscopic 3D adaptation of “Beowulf” for both IMAX and digital 3D theaters.

“This is a reward for our obsession to always do things better, to figure out great solutions which help our clients succeed,” said HPA Judge’s Award recipient Ramy Katrib, founder of Digital Film Tree. “We’re honestly proud to be recognized by the HPA, and to win with our clients and friends at CBS is really amazing.”

The HPA Awards will also honor Elizabeth Daley (The Charles S. Swartz Award), Ron Burdett (Lifetime Achievement Award), and Quantel, FastSoft and Panasonic (The Engineering Excellence Award) and 10 creative categories. The event will be hosted by actor and director Wil Shiner.
