A large contingent of Grass Valley HD production gear is being used by several mobile production companies to capture men's and women's March Madness action for ESPN (in 720p) and CBS (in 1080i).
CBS hired Corplex, a Northfield, Ill.-based mobile production company to deploy its Platinum HD truck (and its "Mercury" B-unit) to cover men's regional action in St. Louis, Winston-Salem, N.C. and East Rutherford, N.J. The expando rig uses a fully loaded Grass Valley Kalypso HD production switcher.
Lyon Video in Columbus, Ohio deployed two mobile unit HD trucks (MU-6 and MU-7) to cover first and second round action from the women's NCAA tournament, including the divisional finals. Both units carry LDK 6000 HD Worldcam cameras, as well as an LDK 6200 HD Super SloMo camera system, Kalypso HD switcher, Trinix video routing switcher and Concerto series audio router.
ESPN hired NEP SuperShooters of Pittsburgh to cover the Women's Final Four. The NEP SS21 HD production truck is a mobile studio housing 18 Grass Valley LDK 6000 HD WorldCam cameras, a Grass Valley Kalypso HD production switcher, as well as a Trinix routing switcher for video and a Concerto series router for audio. The company's SS20 HD truck, which uses Grass Valley WorldCam HD cameras and a Kalypso SD switcher, was also used to cover men's regional action.
The tourney ends this weekend with the men's Final Four in Atlanta and women's Final Four in Cleveland.
