Focus on Wireless HD at VITEC Conference

RF Extreme companies, Total RF LLC and RF Central LLC, were among the four presenters at the fifth annual VITEC Conference, a two-day event with the focus on current technology issues facing the broadcast industry. The main topic of this year's conference held March 14-15 at the Doral Arrowood Resort in Rye, N.Y., was wireless HD video, "That New Black Magic."

Conference attendees included sports and live entertainment broadcasting representatives from NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, ESPN, Turner and HBO, according to Fred Fellmeth, Total RF's COO.

The presenters included Link Research, Global Microwave Systems (GMS) and Thomson Grass Valley, which showcased their wireless HD camera systems. Total RF followed with a demonstration using its RF Central HD system, which is based on the GMS HD system and incorporates Total RF's camera control, and explained how its camera control works with the Sony 1500.

The demonstration included a showcase of the wireless system in action as Total RF's cameraman took a walk on the golf course adjacent to the hotel. As attendees viewed the received video in the meeting room, they witnessed the cameraman walk more than five minutes away to the far end of the course and turn around for a shot of the hotel, without any break up in the picture.

The second "live test" incorporated a helicopter relay of an HD signal from a car located several miles away. HD video was transmitted from the helicopter in the air to the test car--which drove around an airport--with no break up in the signal.
