DataVideo Acquires nNovia

WHITTIER, CALIF.: DataVideo Corp. said this week it acquired nNovia, a San Jose, Calif. company that specializes in hard-disk video recorders. The deal brings adds new hard-drive and solid-state recording technology to the portfolios of DataVideo, an OEM partner with nNovia since 2000.

nNovia’s drives are designed particularly for endurance. The company’s solid-state QC deck was used last year to record video of the International Motorcycle Land Speed Trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, where a 16-year-old motorcycle land speed record of 322 miles per hour was broken twice.

Datavideo will acquire all assets and liabilities of nNovia. The nNovia product line will be rebranded and folded into DataVideo’s. DataVideo will assume all customer support and warranty obligations of nNovia and will support nNovia customers from its Whittier location. DataVideo’s headquarters is located in Taipei, Taiwan. The company markets a variety of professional A/V gear, including switchers, converters, intercoms, VTRs, servers, etc.

nNovia’s San Jose office will be retained, and a new company called DataVideo Silicon Valley Corp. will be formed to merge the nNovia engineering team into Datavideo as a research and development team. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to be completed this month.
