Charter Media Purchases Broadcast Pix Switchers

Charter Media has purchased two Studio 2000 production switchers from Broadcast Pix. Charter Media is headquartered in Kingsport, Tenn. One of the switchers has been installed there in a mobile production trailer and the other is being used in a smaller production cart at Charter's Dalton, Ga., location.

The switchers have built-in CG, long-form clipstore and monitoring capability and will be used in coverage of local events and on-site commercial production in and around the two cities.

"We purchased the systems on the spot after seeing the demos and doing some online research of the Broadcast Pix platform," said Brent Herron, creative services manager for Charter Media. "We saved between $30,000 and $40,000, and the additional savings allowed us to spend our money on other upgrades. The quality of our live productions at both sites has improved since installing the systems."

Both of the switching systems are equipped with breakout boxes that allow connection of a mix of Sony cameras, playback devices and audio equipment. Herron said that at Kingsport, the increased production efficiencies of the new switcher enabled the production team there to cut its weekly workload by 15 hours.
