CES: Panasonic Debuts 152-inch Giant Plasma

At CES this week, Panasonic announced that it has developed the “world’s largest” high-definition plasma display, crossing the tape measure at 152-inches. The new display is engineered for 4Kx2K resolution and for reproducing stereoscopic images, allowing home viewers to experience the latest 3D content from Hollywood.

The display dwarfs Panasonic’s previous large screen effort, a 103-inch plasma that was introduced in 2008.

The new model incorporates a new “frame-at-a-time” driving method for reduction of crosstalk in order to deliver clearer 3D imaging. In addition to home theatre applications, Panasonic expects the new 152-inch display to find business, educational and medical applications. The company expects that acceptance and growth of 3D television will accelerate in 2010, calling it “the first year of 3D.”
