Australia: HD Sports Moves into Regional Markets

One HD, the regional affiliate of Australia’s Channel Ten, plans to begin airing sports coverage in mostly rural areas within a month, and possibly as early as July 2.

The HD service will be available to viewers of Southern Cross Ten who already receive HD services in the markets of New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. The all-sports venue, One HD, will be broadcast on ch. 50, according to Southern Cross Ten, which is owned by Macquarie Southern Cross Media.

“The launch of this channel follows the significant investment program, which was required to enable the broadcasting of HD television across 25 markets, we have in these regions in eastern Australia—ranging from far north Queensland down to southern Victoria,” the media firm said in a statement.
