1080p front projectors to experience strong growth this year

This year, the unit share of 1080p resolution front projectors will grow to 41 percent, according to new research from large-screen display experts Pacific Media Associates.

The finding, part of the research firm's 2006 North American Reseller/Retailer Survey, underscores the fact that 1080p resolution is preferred for HDTV content, according to Pacific Media Associates vice president Michael Abramson.

According to Abramson, recent releases of new 1080p front projectors costing less than $5000 from Sony and Mitsubishi "shook up the market." The introductions should propel growth in the front projector segment of the market, he said.

The survey also forecasts strength in the adoption of wireless technology to connect front projectors for Media Center PC installations with a 63 percent attach rate this year — three times higher than the level in 2005.

The 11th annual survey polls dealers, including for the first time those that sell mainly to the public. It covered front projectors, flat panel and rear projection displays.
