Thomson acquires stake in HD editing company Canopus

Thomson is acquiring one-third of the shares of Canopus, the Japanese maker of HD desktop video editing software, and is in the process of acquiring the entire company.
The deal bolsters Thomson's Grass Valley Broadcast & Networks business and its push to deliver technologies that include desktop video editing, VoIP and digital media conversion. In addition to its PC-based, multi-format digital and HD video editing systems, Canopus also supplies video encoding/decoding, digital media conversion, and multichannel, multi-location video delivery technologies for digital signage and related applications.
