The World Series Champion Anaheim Angels used Grass Valley's Profile server and replay system to review their team's plays and monitor progress.
Using logging and control software from Dixon Sports Computing, the team used Profile to show a player's full- and slow-motion and reverse replays of their last at-bat or a pitcher's last inning of work.
On the Angels' home turf, robotic cameras are installed behind first and third base to record a batter's swing while another is trained on the pitcher's mound. The Profile system is housed in a video room located inside the field while a compact viewing station (linked via fiber-optic cable) is adjacent to the Angels' dugout.
The footage is digitized in realtime and stored on one of four channels in the Profile system for playback on demand. On the road, TV and scoreboard feeds are also digitized and available during the game. A separate Profile channel is used for local broadcast TV feed, which players can watch for additional camera angles.
The Profile system uses eight 4 GB drives (four hours of MPEG-2 storage).
