Three stations streamline news production with Bitcentral

Three new stations have converted their newsroom production to digital by choosing Bitcentral's Precis system in time for their November ratings periods and the end of the year holiday period. All three stations — KSEE-TV in Fresno, CA; KMTV-TV in Omaha, NE; and KTVM-TV in Bozeman, MT — went live with the Precis solution on Dec. 14.

Personnel training, installation, logistics and conversion of these broadcast stations from tape to complete digital workflows were done in a three weeks. The Precis solution supports Avid’s iNEWS and the AP’s ENPS newsroom computer systems, as well as a variety of third-party editing software. The system also allows the stations to scale storage with the hardware of their choice while all archives can be kept online for as long as required.

Dave Bukowski, senior broadcast engineer at KSEE, said the launch of Precis went so smoothly, the station didn’t need to use dub reels.

Precis is a file-based, play-to-air digital news management system. The solution is browser-based and highly scalable, with virtually no limits on the number of users that can access the system. It delivers an integrated online archive with inexpensive commodity storage for SD or HD video content, as well as provides the stations with a complete system, featuring full integration with iNEWS, ENPS and editing software such as Adobe’s Premier Pro, Sony’s Vegas and Thomson Grass Valley’s Edius.
