Sonnet to Highlight Fusion F2 at IBC

(click thumbnail)Sonnet Fusion F2A new, larger capacity version of its Fusion F2 storage system will take the spotlight in the Sonnet Technologies booth at IBC2008.

The Fusion F2 1TB portable two-drive RAID SATA storage system includes two 500 GB/5400 rpm 2.5-inch drives mounted side by side in a rugged aluminum 5.9-inch x 6.2-inch x 0.72 inch enclosure—just a bit larger than two stacked CD cases. Internally, Fusion F2’s drives are individually shock-isolated, which eliminate cross-coupled vibration—a potential source of soft-error-induced skipped frames, according to Sonnet.

Fusion F2 features two eSATA data connections, draws its power from a computer’s FireWire port and is designed for use with the Sonnet Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 host adapter for MacBook Pro and PC notebooks. Its drives are formatted as a RAID 0 volume, allowing the Fusion F2 to deliver sustained data transfer rates of up to 134 MBps read and write (nearly twice as fast as a pair of FireWire 800 drives), and supports professional content capture in conjunction with AJA Video Systems Io HD.

Fusion F2 supports MAC OS X, Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional and Linux. It is compatible with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox and Bluefish444 and works with all mainstream media editing applications.

Elsewhere in the Sonnet booth, the company will demonstrate its Fusion D800RAID desktop and R800RAID 2U rackmount SATA storage systems. Created for HD edit environments that require speed and fault-tolerance, the eight-drive D800RAID systems are available in 4 TB, 6 TB or 8 TB configurations, all incorporating Enterprise RAID edition drives.

Also on hand will be the Fusion R400Q and D400Q SATA quad interface storage systems, both providing up to 4 TB of storage and incorporating four swappable Enterprise/RAID Edition drives. The units feature four interfaces: eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. Sonnet will also show three products in its Tempo SATA line: the Tempo SATA E4P, featuring four external SATA (eSATA) ports; Tempo SATA X4P card, which leverages the PCI-X interface to provide optimum data throughput and raw storage capacity; and the Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 for MacBook Pro or any Windows laptop with an ExpressCard slot.
