SkyStream introduces DVB S-2 support for IP encapsulators

SkyStream has added DVB S-2 support to its Source Media Router (SMR) line of IP encapsulators, which enable the efficient, reliable delivery of IP video and data content over DVB and ATSC-based networks.

The DVB S-2 standard will allow satellite-based video and data services, such as two-way Internet over satellite, VOIP, video on demand, high-definition television (HDTV) and for broadcasting more local channels, because it can reduce satellite bandwidth requirements by as much as 30 percent.

In addition to the new DVB-S2-ready versions of SkyStream's SMRs, existing deployments of SkyStream Source Media Routers can be upgraded to support DVB-S2, including: SMR-24, SMR-25 and SMR-26.
