Russia’s Zvezda TV installs Spectrum server

Omneon announced that Zvezda TV, a state-run Russian TV network, has selected Omneon Spectrum media server systems to support the launch of a new channel dedicated to providing patriotic education to Russia’s youth.

The Omneon systems, installed at Zvezda TV’s Moscow facility by systems integrator Vidau Systems, will replace a tape-based system and provide the network with media access and playout capabilities.

Omneon said its Spectrum media service provided a reliable and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. It’s built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving and collaborative production.

Two identical Omneon Spectrum systems at Zvezda TV are configured to provide mirrored playout of DV25 material from storage with a 2.7TB capacity. They operate under the control of Building4Media automation and, as the network continues to refine its tapeless operations, will also integrate with Apple Final Cut Pro editing systems to enable streamlined production and post-production workflows.
