Panavision and Sony recently announced the development of an HD video cinematography camera that uses a 12.4-megapixel image sensor in a Super 35mm format that can use all existing spherical 35mm lenses. The camera, called the Genesis, will be available exclusively through Panavision.
With its Super 35mm imager, Genesis has the depth-of-field attributes of a 35mm film camera. It can be docked to a Sony SRW-1 HD video recorder, which mounts on top of Genesis to mimic the look and handling of a Panavision Panaflex film camera. The new camera features 10-bit processing for each of the RGB channels, dual-link 4:4:4 HD-SDI outputs, 4:2:2 HD-SDI monitor output and an integrated fiber-optic adapter. The camera will shoot at frame rates up to 50 fps.
Genesis will be manufactured at Panavision's facility in Woodland Hills, Calif.
