On Call Communications, Intelsat assist international news groups with coverage of singer’s death

On Call Communications and Intelsat provided uplinks to TV reporters from around the world at multiple venues in the Los Angeles area for coverage of the death of Michael Jackson.

Within hours of the first reports of the pop singer’s death, On Call was on the scene assisting international news organizations with live coverage from Los Angeles.

On Call Communications provided the uplink vehicle and operating staff. The uplink vehicle, outfitted with the QuickSPOT automated, IP-based satellite newsgathering system, allowed the news teams to be on-air within minutes of arrival at Jackson’s residence. On Call’s complete uplink services also included the HD-SDI/SD-SDI camera, a professional cameraman, IFB, WiFi Internet access, FTP and ENG kit.

The live feeds were delivered to Intelsat’s video fiber network. Using its global network of satellites, fiber and teleports, Intelsat provided the end-to-end content delivery to the international destinations.
