MediaPhy samples mobile TV single-chip for Japan

MediaPhy last week introduced the second member of its Solo family of multistandard single-chip offerings for global mobile TV applications, the J-Solo, designed specifically for the Japanese mobile TV market. The all-CMOS single-die J-Solo covers ISDB-T 1-3-13 segments.

Among the features of the J-Solo device is Smart-Seg, which, according to the company, allows seamless switching between 1seg, 3seg and 13seg modes. Featuring a proprietary architecture that enables ultra-low power consumption, ISDB-T 1seg operates at 80mW of power, while ISDB-T 13seg requires only 120mW. It is ideal for implementation in cell phones, laptops, PDAs, PMPs and automotive systems throughout the Japanese market.

The chip will be sampled to customers this month and is expected to go into volume production in the first quarter of 2008.
