Fujitsu Adds DVB-S, DVB-S2 Modulation to Encoder

Fujitsu Computer Products of America has announced that their IP-9500E MPEG-4 AVC codec is now equipped for DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulation functionality, eliminating the need for separate units when high-definition video is transmitted via satellite.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said that the new functionality will reduce overall costs associated with the transmission of HD signals. The enhanced encoder be demonstrated at the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas.

"While superior HD picture quality remains one of the IP-9500’s most significant competitive differentiators, adding DVB-S/S2 capabilities simplifies the operation as well as reduces rack space and cost," said Vic Herring, Fujitsu’s senior director of video solutions group. "We believe the integration of DVB-S/S2 capabilities into the Fujitsu encoder is a step forward in helping our customers reducing cost associated with implementing a separate satellite modulator, while maintaining the best possible HD picture quality."
