Along with its endorsement of the recent FCC Report and Order (08-256), which adopts formal rules and provides authorization for Distributed Transmission Systems (DTS), Axcera announced an expanded portfolio of complete DTS and ATSC M/H transmission solutions to support DTS and also provide migration to mobile TV based on the ATSC M/H standard.
Frequently a requirement for mobile TV networks where in-building coverage is vital to a commercially viable service, the DTS suite's multiple transmitters operate on the same frequency in a single frequency network (SFN). The Axcera portfolio includes:
- The Axcera DTV exciter, available in a standard ATSC version, as a DTS “slave” exciter, and now as an ATSC M/H compatible exciter — all on the same hardware platform. Retro-fittable to all existing ATSC exciters, it makes any transmitter DTS and ATSC M/H compatible.
- The Axcera Distributed Transmission Adapter (DTxA) allows DTS operation by adding SFN timing and synchronization information to the transport stream at the studio/headend. It supports multiple SFN transmitters operating DTS or ATSC M/H and provides differential timing for each SFN transmitter
- The broadest range of power levels among the digital TV transmitters market and lower power low-delay, echo-canceling gap fillers that repeat the on-channel signal in small “gaps” in the coverage area.
- Coverage analysis and planning services that determine optimal cell locations and DTS synchronization timing to ensure coverage throughout the markets served, optimized with software tools developed for SFNs and proven with ATSC simulations.
