Leading Indian newspaper publisher moves into broadcasting with Quantel
The leading Telugu language Indian newspaper publisher, Andhra Jyothy, has today launched a brand new 24 hour television news channel powered by Quantel's Enterprise sQ server-based production technology. The new station, ABN Andhra Jyothy, serves the large Telugu speaking region of the sub-continent, centred on Hyderabad and stretching east to the Bay of Bengal and south to Tamil Nadu. The Enterprise sQ system was purchased through Quantel's Indian reseller, Shaf Broadcast. The system went live without a hitch.
"We were starting with a green field site so we were free to choose the very best technology to enable us to deliver a top quality, up to the moment news service from day one," said Vemuri Radhakrishna, ABN Managing Director. "Quantel and their partners Shaf Broadcast have delivered and installed a complete newsroom solution on time and with minimal fuss. Our journalists and editors come from a variety of backgrounds but have all found the Quantel interface extremely easy to learn and use, with the result that we were able to become 100% productive within just a few weeks. News is all about giving viewers timely information, presented well; our new Quantel system allows us to do just that."
The Enterprise sQ system has 720 hours of storage, and supports 16 sQ View and sQ Cut journalist shot selection and editing applications which run as windows inside the station's ENPS newsroom computer desktops. In addition, there are 8 sQ Edit seats to handle craft editing needs. Ingest is controlled with Quantel's sQ Record application and playout with sQ Play.
