Grass Valley Kalypso HD Video Production Center Switches Super Bowl XLIII Game and More

Nevada City, Calif., January 29, 2009 – For several years running, the Grass Valley™ Kalypso™ HD Video Production Center switcher has been the right choice for the highest profile live sporting event in North America. This year’s Super Bowl® XLIII telecast on Sunday, February 1 is no exception. It will be broadcast live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., in the 1080i high-definition (HD) format for the NFL world feed using a Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher, on board an all-HD NEP Supershooters’ production truck. NEP will also provide a Kalypso-based truck to NBC for the production of the Super Bowl halftime show.

The proven Grass Valley HD switcher will work in tandem with other HD production equipment to handle the more than 75 cameras to be used for the game action and other activities in and around Raymond James Stadium.

Other TV networks, including ESPN and FOX SPORTS NET (FSN), will use other production trucks based around the Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher for their Super Bowl-related programming throughout the week leading up to the big game.

Pittsburgh, Penn.-based NEP Supershooters will send four HD trucks to handle the live event coverage —two with Grass Valley Kalypso HD switchers on board. The trucks include NEP’s ND4, complete with a 90-input Kalypso HD switcher (NFL world feed), and NEP’s Denali Silver (configured for HD or SD operation) with a Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher (Super Bowl halftime show).

Another production company, Game Creek Video, will be on hand in Tampa to support ESPN in the days leading up to the game, beginning on Jan. 27, and a day after the Super Bowl. The veteran production company is sending its Yankee Clipper truck, compete with a Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher. They’ll be producing shows like “Pardon the Interruption,” “Sports Center,” “Mike & Mike,” “Countdown Daily,” NFL Live,” “NFL Matchup” and “Outside the Lines” from several on-site studios set up temporarily inside and outside of Raymond James Stadium.

In addition, F&F Productions, located in Clearwater, Fla., will provide “The Best Damn Sports Show” on FSN with the F&F GTX-12 HD truck on site in Ybor City (near Tampa). The truck will provide FSN with an 88-monitor production wall tied to a 90-input Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher on board.
