Avid Returning to NAB Show

After a year’s absence, Avid Technology will exhibit at the 2009 NAB Show, April 18-23 in Las Vegas.

A spokeswoman confirmed the news but offered no immediate details.

Last year, Avid came to Las Vegas and met with customers, but did not rent exhibit space on the show floor.

Since then, Avid replaced many of its officers in an attempt to restore its customer service, product reputation and cash flow, which it admitted had suffered some setbacks.

Among the issues: consolidating its seven major brands, following the shedding of non-core businesses SoftImage and PCTV.

“We are the established leader in video editing. We are the established leader in asset management in the production broadcast space. We are the established leader in audio mixing,” Gary Greenfield, Avid chairman and CEO, said at an investor presentation this week. “What we had not done is bring them together in a consolidated space to the customer.”

He said Avid’s extensively used products had created both enthusiasm and frustration. The company has been working hard to improve relationships with and service to customers.

“We’ve channeled a lot of that frustration into enthusiasm by partnering with the customers,” he said.
