EVANGELICAL MINISTRY ENHANCES VIDEO PRODUCTION QUALITY WITH HDTV LENSES FROM CANON U.S.A.

Canon’s DIGISUPER 22xs Compact HD Studio Lens and HJ11ex4.7B IRSE Wide-Angle Portable HD Zoom Lens Provide Crystal Clarity and Production Convenience Features

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., January 21, 2009 – As television audiences switch to HDTV, program producers of all kinds are transitioning to this new format to ensure that the shows they shoot today will appeal to viewers in the future. For the in-house production facility at the Voice of Evangelism, in Cleveland Tenn., converting to HDTV included purchasing three Canon DIGISUPER 22xs Compact HD studio lenses and two Canon HJ11ex4.7B IRSE wide-angle portable HD zoom lenses from the Broadcast and Communications division of Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, to accommodate the ministry’s expanding weekly television and multimedia outreach.

“I have used Canon lenses now for about 18 years, and have had great success with them,” said Charlie Ellis, Voice of Evangelism’s director of Television. “I have always felt that Canon lenses are superior to most other competing lenses, which is why I have used them for so long. This lens is scaled down to fit portable HD cameras, but it’s still a high-end HD lens designed for studio applications. It’s incredibly smooth, with a crystal-clear image. The performance is outstanding. We have our Canon DIGISUPER 22xs lenses on three switchable HD portable studio cameras.”

“As for Canon’s HJ11ex4.7B HD portable zoom lens, I love the wide-angle view it provides,” Ellis continued. “Its superior wide-angle capability helps in creating an effective HD production, especially in a small area. Our two Canon HJ11ex4.7B portable zoom lenses perform very well; these are exceptional HD lenses.”

Leveraging decades of expertise in imaging and optical technologies, Canon offers a broad range of advanced HD lenses designed for practically every production application. Product categories include: portable HD ENG and EFP zoom lenses for 2/3, 1/2, and 1/3-inch imager cameras; long-field HD zoom lenses with Image Stabilization and Auto Focus for major sports and entertainment events; studio lenses ranging from a full-size next-generation high-end HD Auto Focus model to the industry’s original compact HD studio lens; and cine-style prime and zoom lenses. Each Canon lens is engineered to deliver the superior technology, features, and performance that have made the Company a leading supplier of HDTV lenses to the worldwide television industry.

Canon’s DIGISUPER 22xs Compact HD studio lens (model XJ122x7.3B IE-D) provides full-featured “box lens” optical performance in a size and weight (13.4 lbs.) that is designed for mounting on portable HD cameras configured for studio use. The resulting low-weight HD camera/lens combination makes a traditional support “sled” unnecessary and is appropriate for use with a modest size pedestal, sturdy tripod, or robotic mount. Although small in size, the DIGISUPER 22xs Compact HD studio lens is a high-end optical system squarely based on Canon’s advanced HD studio lens design principles. The lens features Canon’s exclusive Digital Servo System, which includes microcomputer compensation of lens-focus breathing (the inadvertent alteration of field-of-view when using the focus control). Other features include an informational display for precise operation of such Canon digital functions as Shuttle Shot (the ability to program repeatable zooms between two pre-set focal lengths), Framing Preset (automatic zooming between two pre-set zoom positions), and Speed Preset (programming a particular zoom speed and repeating it with the press of a button).

Designed for Electronic Field Production (EFP), Canon’s HJ11ex4.7B IRSE zoom lens is the widest angle-of-view portable HD production lens offered by Canon. It is engineered for wide-angle shooting with minimum chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion, while also providing lightweight operation and exceptional HD performance. As with all Canon eHDxs portable lenses and several Canon HDgc portable lenses, the HJ11ex4.7B IRSE features Canon’s exclusive eDrive technology for convenient user pre-setting of such functions as zoom starts and stops, zoom speeds, f-stops, and memorized focus settings. Canon eDrive – coupled with Canon's exclusive optical encoders – provides lens-status information on an easy-to-read display and delivers outstanding accuracy and repeatability for achieving intricate, high-impact shots. All Canon eDrive-equipped lenses can also be operated manually as well.

“Every broadcast we produce is created using Canon lenses,” Ellis explained. “At this point, I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
