Also new from Panasonic (exhibiting at NAB booths C3712 and C3327) are a pair of high-resolution LCD HD production monitors — the 25.5in BT-LH2550 and the 17in BT-LH1710.
The larger LH2550 provides a 1920 x 1200 pixel In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel with an expanded color gamut that exceeds the NTSC standard. It offers six color space settings, therefore supporting a wide range of high-end applications. The monitor’s image processing engine has a 3-D look-up table that calibrates it to reproduce content according to the selected color standard. The monitor is lighter than its predecessor and features a full range of inputs including DVI-D, two auto-switching SDI (HS/SSD, component and RGB), as well as standard RS-232C and GPI remote inputs.
For control room applications, the monitor operates without a cooling fan, providing noise-free performance. Additional internal tools include build-in waveform and vectorscope functions. It also has a split-screen function, permitting the simultaneous display of two video sources, side-by-side from two different inputs.
The 17in LH1710 is similar, using a 1280 x 768 IPS panel. This monitor uses a newly-designed 10-bit image processing circuit, providing increased accuracy and detail using a 3-D LUT to reproduce accurate images according to the selected color standard.

Rapid Writer
If you’re heavy into the P2 workflow, the AJ-HRW10 Rapid Writer offers a way to dramatically simplify access to P2 content. The housing has slots for two 3.5in removable hard disk drives and a built-in five-slot P2 memory drive. The P2 Rapid Writer can automatically transfer data from up to five P2 cards at the touch of button. It can also copy the material simultaneously to two separate RAID drives providing full backup.
The Rapid Writer has a GigE port for direct access to any IT network, internal speaker and headphone jack. Operation is accomplished via a 5in LCD touch screen.
P2 memory drive
If your workflow needs an even bigger and faster solution, try the AJ-PCD35 P2 memory drive with PCI express interface. The PCD35 can increase transfer speed of P2 content to 1.0Gb/s or higher when used with desktop computer systems.
The drive can transfer data from up to five P2 cards simultaneously, making content immediately available to nonlinear editing systems and servers. It supports all P2 card sizes, P2 formats and frame rates.
With five 64GB P2 cards inserted, the PCD35 can offer immediate access to more than 20 hours of DVCPRO, 10 hours DVCPRO50 or AVC-Intra 50, or more than five hours of DVCPRO HD or AVC-Intra 100 content. The drive easily plugs into a tower computer’s PCIe card slots, making it well suited for playback or editing applications. It can also be used as an external device and is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X.
