Peru Begins Testing Terrestrial DTV Standards
August 8, 2008
DTV testing started in Peru this week, according to Andina, the country’s official government Web site.
The article reported that the commission responsible for selecting Peru’s DTV standard is conducting field tests in the city of Iquitos using both broadcast and cellular technology. ATSC, DVB-T/H and ISDB-T are being tested.
This is not the first test of DTV in Peru. In late 2007 DTV tests were conducted in Lima. The Comisión Multisectorial extended the testing to include mobile TV and other areas of the country.
According to the Andina article, the Vice-Minister of Communications, Cayetana Aljovín said DTV trials are expected to begin in 2009. After DTV is fully established in 10-15 years, analog TV will be shut off.
