NBC Taps Tandberg for Olympic Coverage

NBC News has deployed Tandberg Television's DSNG encoding and transmission technology to maintain connectivity between Athens Greece and its stateside offices for the 2004 Olympics. Forty E5745 Voyager DSNG systems provide 15 bi-directional and 10 unidirectional paths that will carry audio, video, and Ethernet traffic over four trans-Atlantic DS-3 fibers.

The E5745 combines Tandberg's satellite technology with Vocality International's SNG communications technology. The DSNG is a multiple-carrier system for data, audio and video communications. The system incorporates multiplexing from Vocality to support up to eight voice channels, telephone encryption, data encryption and an IP static router port. The package supports duplex satellite and DVB-ASI transmissions and can connect to ATM interfaces.
